Inspired by the popular Hoichoi series Eken Babu, Joydeep Mukherjee’s upcoming film The Eken will see Anirban Chakrabarti reprising his role as a detective who masquerades as an ordinary man. The Eken, which will be released in theatres on 14 April, will also feature Debasish Mondal, Suhotra Mukhopadhyay and Paayel Sarkar.
Srijit Mukherji’s X=Prem, which is about the unique romantic journey of four individuals, will arrive in cinema halls on 13 May. Starring Arjun Chakraborty, Anindya Sengupta, Madhurima Basak, and Shruti Das, X=Prem is a story of human emotions and the selflessness of love.
Kuler Achaar, Mainak Bhaumik’s upcoming family drama about a bride who refuses to change her surname after marriage, will be out on 3 June. The film stars Madhumita Sarcar, who previously worked in Bhaumik’s Cheeni (2020), Vikram Chatterjee, Indrani Haldar and Sujan Mukherjee.
Celebrated for their onscreen chemistry in the television series Gaaner Oparey (2010), Arjun Chakraborty and Mimi Chakraborty will be back as a pair in Arindam Sil’s upcoming psychological thriller Khela Jawkhon. Also featuring Susmita Chatterjee, the film will hit the screens on 1 July.
Khela Jawkhon tells the story of Urmi and Sagnik who lost their only child in a horrific car accident. Urmi is haunted by the memory of her dead child and strange visions of violence. Woven with twists, the narrative depicts strange events, which make the couple question reality.
Sil’s fourth Byomkesh Bakshi film after Byomkesh Gowtro (2018) is slated to be released on 11 August. The film, which is untitled for now, is based on Sharadindu Bandopadhyay’s unfinished story Bishupal Bodh, which the filmmaker completed along with screenwriter Padmanabha Dasgupta. Starring Abir Chatterjee as the iconic sleuth and Sohini Sarkar as his wife Satyabati, the film will see Suhotra Mukhopadhyay essaying the character of Byomkesh’s sidekick and author Ajit.
Karna Subarne'r Guptodhon marks director Dhrubo Banerjee's return to the treasure hunt genre with Sona Da (Abir Chatterjee), Jhinuk (Ishaa Saha) and Abir (Arjun Chakraborty). The adventure film will be out on 30 September.
Actor-turned-director Anirban Bhattacharya’s debut feature film Ballavpurer Roopkotha will be released on 21 October. Based on Badal Sarkar’s play of the same name, the quirky horror-comedy revolves around a night of chaos and a 400-year-old ghost.
Five years after Double Feluda (2016), Sandip Ray will bring back the titular detective to the big screen with Hatyapuri, which is based on his legendary father Satyajit Ray’s story of the same title. The cast of the murder thriller is yet to be revealed. In Hatyapuri, Feluda, Topshe and Lalmohan Ganguly aka Jatayu go on a vacation in Puri, Odisha and discover an unidentified corpse on the beach. The inquisitive gumshoe attempts to unravel the mystery. Hatyapuri will arrive in theatres on 23 December.
