Director Arindam Sil will collaborate with SVF Entertainment and Camellia Productions for his fourth Byomkesh Bakshi film, which stars Abir Chatterjee as the iconic sleuth.

The previous films in the franchise are Har Har Byomkesh (2015), Byomkesh Parbo (2016) and Byomkesh Gowtro (2018).

The upcoming project is based on Sharadindu Bandopadhyay’s unfinished story Bishupal Bodh, which the director has completed along with screenwriter Padmanabha Dasgupta.

Set in the tumultuous Naxalite uprising in Bengal in 1971, the film will see Byomkesh Bakshi get involved in a story of vengeance. In the film, Byomkesh decides to attend a play at the theatre and witnesses a crime unfolding on the stage. As he digs deep, a tripartite story of love, betrayal and infidelity emerges.

“Of all the movies which I have made till now, the Byomkesh movies have always been very close to my heart,” said the director, “Above all, SVF has played an important part in making my Byomkesh films on a huge scale and I must say that the amazing journey of all the previous Byomkesh movies wouldn’t have been possible without them.”

The filmmaker added, "I am immensely happy to present the fourth Byomkesh movie and as it is based on an incomplete story, completing it was the biggest challenge for Padmanabha and me.

"Also, the fact that SVF and Camellia getting together for movies is a welcome and good sign for Bengali film production," he said.

The film will see Sohini Sarkar reprise the role of Byomesh's wife Satyabati while Suhotra Mukhopadhyay will replace Rahul Banerjee as Byomkesh’s sidekick Ajit.

The film will go on the floors in May.
