The film will be directed by Arati Kadav and backed by actor-turned-producer Harman Baweja.

The Great Indian Kitchen review: Powerful film on patriarchy and male-governed traditions

Malhotra told the news agency IANS [Indo Asian News Service], “As an actor, I could not have asked for a better character. I am more than excited to start working on my role because there are so many layers and nuances to it.”

Kadav is known for helming the acclaimed science-fiction film Cargo (2020), which starred Vikrant Massey and Shweta Tripathi Sharma. “It is one of the most tightly written scripts I have come across, and I am all set to add my voice to the drama,” she said.

Baweja stated that there is a certain mystic quality attached to The Great Indian Kitchen. "The story stays with you well after the film. I wanted to make it for a pan-India audience with the perfect balance between entertainment and content-driven drama," he said.

Directed by Jeo Baby and starring Nimisha Sajayan and Suraj Venjaramoodu, The Great Indian Kitchen unabashedly captures a newlywed wife’s ordeal regarding her husband and in-laws' expectations.
