Nipun Dharmadhikari’s Me Vasantrao is based on the life of the legendary classical singer Vasantrao Deshpande. The film will see the renowned singer Rahul Deshpande, his grandson, essay his character.

The recently released teaser of the film was shared by tabla maestro Zakir Hussain on Twitter on Tuesday. “This is a must-watch for all music lovers. A fitting tribute to a legend bar none," he tweeted.

The teaser features visuals of Rahul Deshpande vocalizing intercut with footage of his late grandfather performing the same piece ages ago. This reminds us how the makers of Kabir Khan’s 83 (2021) included actual footage of Kapil Dev’s batting in the scenes where Ranveer Singh played him.

Speaking about the challenges they faced, Dharmadhikari said earlier this month in a statement, “We worked on this film for nine years and are happy that it is finally releasing. It is not at all easy to narrate the story of a great personality. It is an ambitious task. The whole team made a lot of efforts to get the period, various shades of the persona, production design and, most importantly, the music right. It is a major plus point that Vasantrao’s character is played by his own grandson. I am sure that when the audience sees the film, they will take note of all the artistic aspects.”

Also starring Amey Wagh, Anita Date, Pushkaraj Chirputkar, Kumud Mishra and Sarang Sathaye, Me Vasantrao will be released in theatres on 1 April.
