Nagraj Manjule's Jhund, which is based on the life and work of Slum Soccer founder Vijay Barse, will be released in theatres on 4 March.
Starring Amitabh Bachchan, the film was announced back in 2017 and had been delayed multiple times owing to different reasons.
The latest poster of the film, shared by Bachchan, sees the veteran carrying a football in the foreground of a dilapidated structure.
Announcing the film's release date, Bachchan wrote, "Iss toli se muqaabla karne ke liye raho taiyaar! Humari team aa rahi hai." (Get ready to battle with this gang! Our team is coming!). Incidentally, earlier posters had only featured the veteran's silhouette.
The film tells the story of a football coach trying to uplift children in a conflict-ridden slum area, offering football as the route to a better life. Jhund was initially scheduled to hit the screens on 20 September 2019, but the makers ran into a legal obstacle concerning copyright issues. The producers released a teaser of the film in January 2020, after which the Telangana civil court upheld the stay on the film ordered by a civil court. The makers then approached the Supreme Court. In October 2020, the apex court refused to lift the stay but directed the lower court to clear the matter within six months.
Jhund has been produced by T-Series' Bhushan Kumar and Krishan Kumar, Tandav Films Entertainment's Raaj Hiremath and Savita Raj Hiremath, Aatpat's Nagraj Manjule and Gargee Kulkarni, Cloud 9 Pictures' Meenu Aroraa and Legend Global Studio's Sandip Ssingh.
