The name of Akshay Kumar’s character in Yash Raj Films’ Tashan (2008) was Bachchan Pandey. The actor will now be seen as the titular character in an unrelated film, Bachchhan Paandey, which has been directed by Farhad Samji.
This is the story of a ruthless don based in Baghwa. It is difficult to tell what is more scary – his ruthless attitude or his fake stone eye.
An aspiring filmmaker Myra Devekar (Kriti Sanon) decides to make a biopic on Bachchhan Paandey, although her friend Vishu (Arshad Warsi), who will also be starring in the film, is strongly against the idea. The two finally strike a meeting with Paandey who agrees to share his life story. But he also makes life hell for the two.
The story of Bachchhan Paandey is the same as the Tamil hit Jigadthanda (2014), although the makers haven’t said that it’s an official remake of the film.

The promo is full of brutal violence and the heroics of the central character. The genuinely funny moments are the references to Hindi films and the scene where Akshay’s character lies about his life story.
Akshay appears to be the right fit for such a character. Sanon and Warsi are impressive The film also stars Abhimanyu Singh, Pankaj Tripathi, Sanjay Mishra and Prateik Babbar.
Produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under his banner Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment and distributed by AA Films, Bachchhan Paandey will be released in theatres on 18 March.
