Sohini Sarkar to play female lead in Rahul Banerjee's directorial debut Kolkata 96

The actress will essay the role of Ritwick Chakraborty's wife in the film, which is set in 1996.

Actress Sohini Sarkar will pair up with Ritwick Chakraborty for the second time in actor-turned-director Rahul Banerjee’s directorial debut Kolkata 96.

The duo first appeared as an onscreen pair in Mainak Bhaumik’s Bibaho Diaries (2017).

According to Anya Samay, an entertainment supplement of the Bengali newspaper Ei Samay, Sarkar will be seen as Chakraborty’s wife in the film, which is set in 1996. The film will depict three days in the lives of a family residing in a colony of South Kolkata, which is mostly inhabited by the families who migrated from Bangladesh.

“I liked the screenplay of the film. I am sure that Rahul Da will be able to build the moments from the life of a lower-middle-class family on screen,” said Sarkar. “I have worked with Ritwick Da before. Working with him has always been exciting.”

Sarkar was last seen in the film Ei Ami Renu (2021) and Hoichoi web-series Mandaar (2021). She will play Chakraborty’s sister in Kaushik Ganguly’s upcoming film Kabaddi Kabaddi.

Actor Kamaleswar Mukherjee, Bidipta Chakraborty, Kaushik Sen and Lama Halder will reportedly play crucial roles in the film.

Kolkata 96 will go on the floors in May.
