In Abhijaan, Parambrata plays an aspiring filmmaker, who intends to make a film on Soumitra and requests the latter to narrate his life story to him. The film progresses with flashback moments as Soumitra recounts his journey of turning into the most iconic actor of Bengali cinema. Sengupta plays Soumitra’s younger self in the film.

The film had its world premiere at the London Film Festival on 26 June 2021. Abhijaan was also one of the official selections at the 12th Indian Film Festival of Melbourne.
