The shooting of Vikram’s long delayed Tamil action thriller Cobra has finally been completed after almost three years, it was announced on Tuesday by filmmaker Ajay Gnanamuthu.
Ajay took to Instagram to share the news. "IT’S A WRAP!" he exulted. "Close to 3 years of filming comes to an end! My sincere thanks to Chiyaan Vikram sir and my entire team who trusted me, sailed through all the struggles and difficult times with me, and believed in the vision of Cobra! Forever indebted to each one of you.”
The producer also shared pictures and videos from the wrap-up party.
Produced by 7 Screen Studio in association with Viacom18, the project went on the floors in August 2019. 'This film will be a pan-Indian project catering to the Tamil, Hindi and Telugu audience,' a statement from the makers read. 'It will be produced on a massive scale in association with Viacom18 Motion Pictures. The cast and technicians will have big names of all industries collaborating for this film.'
The project marks the maiden collaboration of Vikram and Ajay Gnanamuthu, who is best known for helming Demonte Colony (2015) and the Nayanthara- and Anurag Kashyap-starrer Imaikkaa Nodigal (2018).
Talking about the project, Ajay had told The Times of India newspaper at the time: “The only thing I can divulge right now is that Vikram’s role will be a challenging one. Of course, he has always taken up challenging roles, but I think this one will be better than all of those.”
Vikram had wrapped up his part of the shoot for Cobra in January 2020 itself. In February, he joined the sets of Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan.
Interestingly, Vikram started shooting for Karthik Subbaraj’s Mahaan (2022) much after he began work on Cobra. Mahaan was released on Amazon Prime Video last week.
