Director Rajesh Mapuskar’s Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness will mark the digital debut of veteran actor Ajay Devgn who plays the titular cop battling personal demons who gets sucked into a web of crime after trying to nab a brutal serial killer.
Devgn believes his audience may not have seen such a grey character before. “My character in Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness is possibly the greyest character you may have never witnessed before (sic),” he said in a statement. “This has been both challenging and inspiring for me.”
Mapuskar said Rudra is not like the usual cop dramas that have been making the rounds. “Rudra spins a darker and grimmer tale," he said. "The psyche of criminal minds is explored unusually with a hero who is quite dark himself, all through his pursuit of the truth. It was absorbing and enthralling to make and I hope it feels like that in the viewing.”
Sameer Nair, chief executive officer (CEO), Applause Entertainment, said, “We are truly excited to be part of Ajay Devgn’s digital debut at such an ambitious scale with Rudra: The Edge Of Darkness. It has been a terrific experience working on this unique narrative together with an amazing cast, crew and our production partners, BBC Studios. At Applause, we believe in the power of stories and storytelling, and with Rudra, we take forward our creative partnership with industry leader Disney+ Hotstar and hope to continue entertaining audiences across the globe.”
Rudra will be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from 4 March.
