Harshavardhan Kulkarni’s Badhaai Do opened to Rs1.50 crore on Friday. But the Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar-starrer saw some growth over the next two days.

The film made Rs2.50 crore and Rs3.35 crore on Saturday and Sunday respectively, as per figures shared by the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com. The film has clearly benefitted from positive word-of-mouth publicity.

The growth in ticket sales was mostly seen in urban multiplexes, which is expected from a film containing LGBTQ themes. Films with such subjects rarely do well in small towns.

But Badhaai Do has a long way to go before it can break even. As per Cinestaan's trade sources, the film was made on a budget of around Rs25 to 30 crore but Its grand total currently stands at Rs7.35 crore. Hence, it will need to hold well this week and get a shot in the arm over its second weekend.

The good news for Badhaai Do is that no Hindi film is slated to be released this week in theatres. Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s period extravaganza Gangubai Kathiawadi, starring Alia Bhatt, will be released the following week, on 25 February.
