R Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect to be released in theatres on 1 July

R Madhavan’s Rocketry: The Nambi Effect will arrive in theatres on 1 July this year.

The film, which has been affected by the third wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the postponement of other big releases, was earlier supposed to be released on 1 April.

Rocketry is based on the life of S Nambi Narayanan, a former scientist at the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) who was charged with espionage but later acquitted. The film is adapted from his autobiography Ormakalude Bhramanapadham, which translates to In the Orbit of Memories, which was released in 2017.

Madhavan has not only played the titular character, but has also written, directed and produced the film under his banner Tricolour Films. This is his first film as director. The movie is being distributed by UFO Moviez and AGS Cinemas in India and Yash Raj Films and Phars Film Co in the international market.

Rocketry will see Madhavan paired with actress Simran after 20 years. The last time they played a couple was in Mani Ratnam’s acclaimed Kannathil Muthamittal (2002). Simran will be playing Nambi Narayanan’s wife Meena in the movie.

The film has cameos by Shah Rukh Khan and Southern star Suriya. The movie has been shot simultaneously in Hindi, Tamil and English and will also be released in Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada.
