It is a well-known fact that fuelled by lack of employment opportunities in the state of Punjab, young boys try their best to get visas to go abroad by hook or crook.

Ammy Virk’s upcoming Punjabi-language movie Aaja Mexico Challiye explores this desperate desire to leave the country, which results in boys being exploited by touts for their money.

Written and directed by Rakesh Dhawan, who has also written films like Honsla Rakh (2021) and Chal Mera Putt 3 (2021), Aaja Mexico Challiye stars a host of foreign actors.

Virk shared the movie trailer with his fans on Instagram.

The trailer opens with the news of eight boys dying in their attempt to go abroad and cross the border into the United States. We then see Virk’s family goading him into making something of himself. He wants to go to America and is lured by the promise of a better future there. He lands up with a group of people all on their way to America, only to realize that things are not as rosy as were made out to be. They need to sneak across the border and are met with hooligans and face all kinds of troubles along the way.

We see the mafia involved in transporting people abroad and the shared plight of immigrants from all over the world. It is a sad reality and the film shows the exploitation of vulnerable people looking for a better future for themselves. With no money and no options for work back home, they have precious little choice.

The story is certainly a unique one and the realistic portrayal is hard-hitting. But along with it, there are pockets of humour that offer a reprieve from the gritty drama.

Aaja Mexico Challiye will be released in theatres on 25 February 2022.
