The main characters of Sachin Kundalkar’s Pondicherry (2022) all converge in the picturesque town by the sea with a purpose. Some seem to be looking for something while others seem to be trying to escape some part of their former life.
Sai Tamhankar’s character looks to be one of the latter, who has arrived in Pondicherry for some sort of salvation. The characters of Vaibhav Tatwawaadi and Amruta Khanvilkar are also dealing with deep emotional issues.
The Marathi film also stars Mahesh Manjrekar, Neena Kulkarni, Tanmay Kulakarni and Gaurav Ghatnekar. Interestingly the film is the first Marathi feature to be shot entirely on smartphone.
The feature already grabs interest with its converging storylines and beautifully shot locations by cinematographer Milind Jog that are impressive despite having been shot on a phone.
Kundalkar’s previous feature as director was the critically acclaimed Gulabjaam (2018) starring Sonali Kulkarni and Siddharth Chandekar. The filmmaker has since been working on this and the Netflix film Cobalt Blue. Both projects have been in the works for a while now.
Written by Tejas Modak and Kundalkar, Pondicherry is due to be released in theatres on 25 February. The filmmaker is also a producer on the project along with Neil Patel. The film is presented by Akshay Bardapurkar and Planet Marathi in association with Creative Viibe.
