Paresh Rawal’s Gujarati play Dear Father was based on the Marathi play Katkon Trikon. The actor is now acting in a Gujarati film based on the same play, also titled Dear Father.

The trailer tells us the film is about an elderly man (Rawal) who has become irritating for his son (Chetan Dhanani) and daughter-in-law (Manasi Parekh). One day, he falls off his balcony. A strict investigative officer, also played by Rawal, arrives at the scene and instantly starts looking at the son and daughter-in-law with suspicion.

The trailer for Dear Father starts off as a family drama and is transformed into a crime thriller. The process is gradual and natural and gets the viewer interested in the film.

Rawal, as is only to be expected from a veteran like him, shines in both the roles that are poles apart. Dhanani and Parekh don’t get much scope in the trailer but they appear promising.

Interestingly, Satish Rajwade’s Marathi movie Aapla Manus (2018) was also an adaptation of Katkon Trikon where Nana Patekar played the father-in-law and the investigative officer. The movie was produced by Ajay Devgn, who also played a cameo in it.

Directed by Umang Vyas and produced by Ratan Jain and Ganesh Jain of Venus Movies, Dear Father will be released in theatres on 4 March. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to see the film.
