Digpal Lanjekar's Pawankhind is the third film in a series of action dramas that draw from 17th century Maratha history.
Previews that were released earlier had given us a glimpse of the film's grand scale but the newly released three-and-a-half-minute trailer, which is full of action and dramatic beats, gives you a very clear idea about what one can expect from the film.
The trailer depicts how Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj (Chinmay Mandlekar) was besieged for months in Panhala fort by the forces of Adilshahi general Siddi Jauhar (Sameer Dharmadhikari). After multiple failed attempts by Maratha leader Netaji Palkar to break the siege, Shivaji and a few soldiers of his hatch a risky plan that must be executed at night.
The trailer has a lot of blood and gore as it depicts various battle scenes between Maratha soldiers and the Adilshahi army. But the best such scene is reserved for the end when a grievously injured Baji Prabhu Deshpande (Ajay Purkar) comes face to face with Jauhar's army. Purkar looks perfect as a fierce warrior.
Mrinal Kulkarni, Prajakta Mali, Ankit Mohan and Kshiti Jog also make brief appearances in the trailer.
It looks like the makers have intentionally added all the best scenes from the film in this trailer as there is no need to hide any spoilers. On the one hand, the trailer gives you a fair idea about the film's grand scale but on the other, it also exposes some of its drawbacks, especially in the technical departments. One wishes they had put more effort into colour grading as some of the daylight shots look very bland. Even some of the action choreography looks very basic.
Also, what's with Dharmadhikari's look? Was it really necessary to apply all that dark make-up? Why didn't they just cast a dark-skinned actor?
Produced by Almonds Creation and Chintamani Developers, Pawankhind is slated to be released in theatres on 18 February.
