In 2008, Neeraj Pandey arrived in the Hindi film industry with a nail-biting thriller A Wednesday (2008).
The film, which starred Naseeruddin Shah, has achieved cult status over the years. Now, almost 14 years later, Behzad Khambata is coming with a film called A Thursday, which seems like a thematic sequel to Pandey's film.
Instead of the nameless character played by Shah on some terrace, here we have Yami Gautam as schoolmistress Naina Jaiswal who has taken her 16 students hostage.
She wants Rs5 crore and also wants to speak with India's prime minister (Dimple Kapadia). If her demands are not met, she threatens to start killing one student every hour.
Neha Dhupia and Atul Kulkarni are police officers who are trying to control the situation, but soon things begin to spiral out of their control.
Just like Shah's nameless common man, it seems Yami's Naina Jaiswal has a hidden motive for her action.
The trailer is intriguing and has a few surprising elements that pique your interest. It also gives equal importance to the supporting characters played by Kulkarni and Dhupia, suggesting that they play an important role in moving the story forward.
At the same time, it feels like the trailer could have been sharper and avoided revealing some crucial plot points.
Written by Ashley Michael Lobo and Khambata, the film also stars Karanvir Sharma, Kalyani Muley and Maya Sarao.
Produced by Ronnie Screwala and Premnath Rajgopalan, A Thursday will be premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on 17 February. Watch the trailer below and let us know if you are keen to watch the film.
