Gehraiyaan title song: Savera and OAFF's lilting melody brings serenity to this passionate drama

The soothing tune features lyrics by Ankur Tewari and vocals by Lothika Jha.

Shriram Iyengar

Even before the producers released the title track of Gehraiyaan in its entirety, its opening riff had gone viral on Instagram. The tune, which has just been released, is just as serene and fresh as one would imagine.

The visuals, which have a music video feel to them, reflect the tenderness and quiet calm induced by the melody. The blue tone, contrasted by orange shades, adds to the sensory experience. The warm tones reflect moments of passion or anger while the blue shade indicates loneliness, tranquillity and sadness.

The composition itself, by OAFF (Kabeer Kathpalia) and Savera, is a stellar one. It seems to be based structurally and stylistically on their single 'Frontline', which was released three years ago. The new lyrics reflect the theme of the film, which stars Deepika Padukone, Siddhant Chaturvedi and Ananya Panday and suit the composition. Written by Ankur Tewari, the lyrics capture the confusion and uncertainty underlining the emotional entanglements of each character. Lothika's serene vocals have a calming influence throughout the piece, which eschews the usual heavy percussion of the Hindi film song in favour of strings.

The song is worth the wait and hits the right notes as the title track for Shakun Batra's passionate and emotional drama. The film has been produced by Dharma Productions and will be streamed on Amazon Prime Video from 11 February.

Check out the song and let us know if you are keen on watching the film.
