Filmmaker Sanjay Jadhav has announced a sequel to his blockbuster multi-starrer Duniyadari (2013), titled Punha Duniyadari. The announcement has been made through a nostalgic video on YouTube and social media.
The 2013 film starred Swwapnil Joshi, Sai Tamhankar, Ankush Chaudhari, Jitendra Joshi, Urmila Kothare, Richa Pariyalli, Sushant Shelar and Pranav Raorane. The feature was adapted from author Suhas Shirvalkar’s best-selling Marathi novel of the same name.
The video has the visuals of the entire aforementioned cast but there hasn’t been any official announcement on this aspect. As Joshi’s character dies in the first film, it is less likely that he will be a part of the sequel.
Interestingly, in recent years, Shirvalkar’s other celebrated book Samantar was adapted into a two-season web-series of the same name on MX Player in 2020. That show also featured Joshi playing the main lead.
Jadhav’s last project was the web-series Anuradha (2021) with Planet Marathi where Tejaswini Pandit played the titular role. He also has the upcoming movie Tamasha Live (2022) with the same production house.
Punha Duniyadari is produced by Dr Manisha Kishor Tolmare and Dr Ankush Harikisan Agrawal.
