Geetha J’s Malayalam film Run Kalyani to be released in theatres on 2 September

Geetha J’s Malayalam-language film Run Kalyani (2022) will be screened in cinemas in India on 2 September.
Producer Shiladitya Bora, who backed the recent theatrical release of independent film Ghode Ko Jalebi Khilane Le Ja Riya Hoon (2022) in major Indian cities, wrote online, “After the success of Anamika Haksar's Ghode Ko Jalebi, Platoon Distribution will be releasing Geetha J's award-winning Malayalam film Run Kalyani in cinemas in India on September 2nd.”

Run Kalyani is Geetha J’s debut feature. The film follows a few days in the life of a young woman, Kalyani (Garggi Ananthan), who is the primary caregiver to her paralyzed aunt Periamma (Sathi Premji). Being the sole bread-earner in her family, she works as a cook in people’s houses.

In a statement, the filmmaker shared, “I am amazed at how in spite of many hurdles, Kalyani continues to run! I thank the boutique distribution house Platoon Distribution on behalf of the whole team from Kerala for releasing it nationally."
The film was premiered at the Kolkata International Film Festival in November 2019, where it won the Special Jury award. It has been screened at international film festivals across the world and has won several awards.
