An honour to be part of the celebration, says Ranveer Singh on hosting Filmfare Awards

The actor will be co-hosting the 67th edition of the awards ceremony with Arjun Kapoor.

Ranveer Singh and Arjun Kapoor are all set to host this year’s 67th Filmfare Awards night in Mumbai on 30 August. The two actors were each other's co-stars in Yash Raj Films’ Gunday (2014) during the initial years of their careers.

Singh is excited to host the mega event this year. “There is some magic around the Filmfare Awards, which is inexplicable, which is why I am ever so excited to be hosting this time,” he said in a statement. “It’s an honour to be a part of the celebration of excellence in Hindi cinema in this grand manner. As a child, I would read Filmfare magazine from cover to cover, especially the award and anniversary or special editions, several times. I used to also take cut-outs from the magazines and save them.”

Singh also went down memory lane when he and his wife, actress Deepika Padukone, won the Filmfare trophy, also known as the Black Lady, in the past. “When I won for Gully Boy (2019), I received the trophy from Madhuri Dixit [Nene], which was again a life-changing moment for me,” he said. “Then, to have Deepika’s parents in the audience when she won Best Actor (Female) for Piku (2015), was yet another heartfelt moment for me. That was a special night as I paid my tribute to Mr Aditya Chopra, my mentor, and on the same evening I also won an award for Bajirao Mastani (2015) and my family was also there.”

Speaking about his performances at the event in the past, the actor said, “I remember in one of the editions, Ganesh Hedge choreographed our performance for Goliyon Ki Raas Leela Ram Leela (2013) on stage and it was hilarious. I still get feedback for that performance. We had a blast in the year when Filmfare was held in Assam [in 2020]. The crowd there was electrifying.”

Singh said that his personal favourite Filmfare awards moment came in 2008 when Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan presented a funny segment called ‘Na-Real Awards.’

The actor has Rohit Shetty's Cirkus (2022) and Karan Johar's Rocky Aur Rani Ki Prem Kahani (2023) lined up for release.

The 67th Filmfare Awards will take place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai on 30 August.
