Moh song ‘Salooq’: B Praak’s piercing Sufi ode to love and heartbreak

Jaani’s soulful lyrics capture the pain and longing of love in the song featuring Gitaj Bindrakhiya and Sargun Mehta

B Praak has firmly established his name as the undisputed singer of intense Sufi songs. The singer just won the Filmfare award for Best Playback Singer (Male) for the song ‘Mann Bharrya 2.0’ from Shershaah (2021). His latest release ‘Salooq’ from Punjabi-language feature Moh (2022) starring Gitaj Bindrakhiya and Sargun Mehta, is another passionate song about an indifferent lover.

With lyrics and composition by Jaani, the music is by B Praak as well.

The film's trailer indicated a gap in time when lead actor Bindrakhiya returns to his home town after a few years. Here, he meets his beloved, played by Mehta. The trailer also showed glimpses of Bindrakhiya getting married to someone else, so Mehta seems to remain his object of affection even after a few years.

‘Salooq’ is picturised at a time when Bindrakhiya has returned to his village and encounters Mehta. She seems excited to see him and greets him saying that he has become a big filmmaker now, asking him if he will take her as an actress in his films. His response is a rather sharp one about her accomplished acting abilities.

The song focuses on Bindrakhiya’s heartbreak, as we see him take to alcohol in a bid to drown his sorrows and contemplate suicide. He even questions whether or not Mehta ever loved him, as he spies on her in a bid to know the truth.

B Praak’s piercing voice captures the pain and longing of love, while expressing the heartbreak of unfulfilled desire. The picturisation of the song features rain-drenched scenes as the heavens seem to be symbolically echoing the sorrow of the jilted lover.

Directed by Jagdeep Sidhu, who has carved a name for himself in presenting passionate romances on screen, Moh is made under the banner of Shri Narotam Ji Studios, Tips Films Ltd. and Orion Studios.

The film is due to be released in theatres on 16 September. Check out the song below and let us know if you are keen to see the film.
