At Netflix’s Films Day in Mumbai yesterday, 29 August, an exclusive sneak peek of the making of the song ‘Phero Na Najariya’ from Qala was unveiled.

Produced by Cleanslate Filmz, Qala is directed by Anvita Dutt. The Hindi film marks the debut of Babil Khan, son of the late actor Irrfan, and stars Tripti Dimri, Amit Sial, and Swastika Mukherjee.

Set in the 1930s and late 1940s, Dimri plays a young, eponymous playback singer. Qala follows her tragic past and the ways in which it catches up with her, causing her to unravel at the peak of her hard-won success due to the spiralling relationship with her mother.

Dutt was present along with Mukherjee, Dimri, Sial and Khan to introduce the soulful song by composer Amit Trivedi, which is penned by Kausar Munir.

The director shared, “Qala is a story I have been aching to tell and I am delighted for it to be amplified across borders and showcased in over 190 countries on Netflix. This is my second time with the same amazing producer, actor, platform and crew. And the journey has been pure joy. All of us are so very excited about this project.”

Dutt made her directorial debut with Bulbbul (2020) which also starred Dimri in the lead role.

Producer Karnesh Ssharma added, “It has been a great experience for Clean Slate Filmz to collaborate again with Netflix. Anvitaa Dutt has undoubtedly created magic yet again with Qala and the entire cast has delivered this story so beautifully. We are extremely excited to see the response to this film from the global audiences as well!”

Also starring Neer Raao, Avinash Raj Sharma and Ashish Singh, Qala features lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya, Swanand Kirkire, Varun Grover, Munir and Dutt herself.
