Sanya Malhotra is on the hunt of missing fruit in Netflix’s Kathal, see motion poster

The satire Kathal (2022) features Sanya Malhotra as a small town police officer who is put on the case of a missing jackfruit (kathal) belonging to a local politician.

The film also stars Anant Joshi, Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav and Neha Saraf. The motion poster of the feature shows Malhotra, ready with flyers of the missing fruit, as she investigates the bizarre case. Joshi and Saraf play her fellow officers.

The dramedy is the directorial debut of Yashowardhan Mishra, who co-wrote the film along with the veteran award-winning writer Ashok Mishra.

Producer Guneet Monga of Sikhya Entertainment, who unveiled the motion poster at Netflix’s Film Day event on 29 August, shared, “Collaborating with director Yashowardhan Mishra who has also written the film along with Ashok Mishra, was a fulfilling experience. At Sikhya, we strive to tell stories from heartlands of the county that are quirky and accessible to a pan India audience. Kathal is a quirky satire. It’s introspective and full of humour and reflective of our times.”

First-time filmmaker Yashowardhan added, “As a creator I always endeavour to create entertaining and heart-warming content that reflects the times we live in. Kathal is one such quirky tale set in heartland India starring Sanya Malhotra, Anant Joshi, Vijay Raaz, Rajpal Yadav and Neha Saraf. I’m very excited to collaborate with Sikhya, Balaji and Netflix and tell this unique, genre-blending story with an Indian heart to a global audience.”

Lead actress Malhotra’s previous films Ludo (2020), Pagglait (2021) and Meenakshi Sundareshwar (2021) have premiered on Netflix as well. Her last release was HIT: The First Case (2022) with co-star Rajkummar Rao released in theatres on 15 July.
