The song ‘Main Ki Karaan’ from Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) explores childhood friendships and the beginnings of a life-long love.

Directed by Advait Chandan and adapted by Atul Kulkarni, the Indian version of Tom Hanks-starrer Forrest Gump (1994) stars Aamir Khan and Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Sung by Sonu Nigam and Romy, the music is composed by Pritam and the lyrics are by Amitabh Bhattacharya. The song begins with the friendship of Laal Singh Chaddha and Rupa D’Souza who meet as children and become fast friends. We see a glimpse of Laal’s devoted mother, played by Mona Singh.

The two children look out for each other in their own way. In one scene, when Rupa finds an empty tiffin, Laal gives her half his lunch. He is clearly smitten by her even at a young age and together, they share many endearing moments together. The last shot in the song is of the two of them sitting with each other on a tree.

The melodious song, with a Sufi touch, captures the feeling of young love and the joy of togetherness.
