The trailer of Voot Select’s The Great Weddings Of Munnes (2022) indicates that the show is a crazy ride. The web-series revolves around Munnes Yadav (Abhishek Banerjee) who is struggling to find a girl for marriage. When he finally meets Mahi (Barkha Singh) and is all set to tie the knot with her, the marriage is called off because of an astrological reason.
The team of The Great Weddings Of Munnes recently took a baraat [marriage procession] on the streets of Mumbai in order to promote their show. It saw Banerjee and Singh dressed up royally as a groom and bride.
“I have had the opportunity to dabble across different genres on OTT, but nothing comes close to the sheer excitement and nervousness of working on an intelligent and endearing comedy such as The Great Weddings of Munnes,” Banerjee said in a statement. “Comedy is serious business – from getting the timing right to producing flawless dialogue delivery – it truly tests one’s boundaries as an actor.”
Sharing the positive points of the show, the actor added, “With a straightforward slice-of-life plot, honest humour, and extremely hilarious dialogues, the series will make you grin, laugh, and experience all the many feelings in between. It was a pleasure to work with Barkha, our creative genius Raaj [Shaandilyaa] and the very talented star cast and I can’t wait to see the audiences’ reaction to this rollercoaster ride filled with a plethora of comic moments!”
After getting noticed in a few advertisements, Singh got heads turned through her web-series Please Find Attached. Interestingly, as a child, she played the younger version of Kareena Kapoor Khan in Mujhse Dosti Karoge! (2002).
“It has been a complete privilege to work with such talented and experienced cast and crew. Raaj is one of the finest directors of our times who understands the nuances of every character and can translate it flawlessly on screen,” the actress said. “I have grown up being mesmerized by the simple slice-of-life movies of the 1970s and 1980s that made us laugh, smile and cry all at the same time, and now working for The Great Weddings of Munnes, I experienced a similar array of emotions.”
She continued, “I love the way this series brings out some of biggest challenges one faces in India with respect to marriage, through humour that also makes you think. I am sure the audience is going to relate to it, and I can’t wait to see their reaction after watching the series.”
Created by Raaj Shaandilyaa and directed by Sunil Subramani, The Great Weddings Of Munnes is due to be streamed on Voot Select on 4 August.
