The Hindi version of director Puri Jagannadh’s Liger (2022) had a poor first weekend at the box office. Starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday, the film has so far collected only Rs13.75 crore nett in the period, including the paid previews of Thursday, 25 August, as per figures shared by the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.

Liger opened with an average amount of Rs4.50 crore nett but instead of a natural progression on the weekend, the film had a downward journey from Friday, 26 August. It collected Rs4.25 crore nett and Rs3.75 crore nett on Saturday and Sunday respectively. The numbers were clearly affected by the negative reviews and word-of-mouth buzz.

As per our trade sources, Liger is made at a high budget of around Rs120 crore. It stands no chance of recovery right now as the film is expected to have a major fall in numbers from today.

On the other hand, the non-performance of Liger has helped the Hindi version of the Telugu film Karthikeya 2 (2022). Starring Nikhil Siddhartha and directed by Chandoo Mondeti, the film’s third weekend collection, which is Rs4.25 crore nett, is almost equal to its entire first week collection of Rs4.43 crore nett.

The movie, which also stars Anupama Parameswaran and Anupam Kher, made Rs11.18 crore nett in the second week. The grand total of the movie currently stands at Rs19.86 crore nett.
