The upcoming Netflix feature The Archies (2022), directed by Zoya Akhtar, is based on the iconic US comics. Announced last year, the film introduces star kids Khushi Kapoor (daughter of producer Boney Kapoor), Suhana Khan (daughter of Shah Rukh Khan), Agastya Nanda (grandson of Amitabh Bachchan and great-grandson of Raj Kapoor), alongside Mihir Ahuja, Dot, Yuvraj Menda and Vedang Raina.

While the first look of the film was unveiled earlier this year, Akhtar revealed that the film is set in the Anglo-Indian community of the 1960s in the magical, fictional town of Riverdale. In a pre-recorded video message that played at the Netflix Films Day in Mumbai, Akhtar chatted with the CEO of Archie Comics, Jon Goldwater to discuss how the adaptation came to be.

Akhtar stated, “It's been an absolute honour to be asked to make an Indian adaptation and the first-ever film for this very iconic Archies franchise. This is a surreal experience since Archie Comics was a part of my childhood. It is super exciting to take these beloved characters and introduce them to a new generation but still keep the nostalgia of the original comic alive. We have set it in the Anglo-Indian community in India and can't wait to transport you to the magical, fictional town of Riverdale.”

Singer and music supervisor of the film, Ankur Tewari also performed with the band The Islanders to present a live musical showcase of the magical world of The Archies at the event.

Produced by Tiger Baby, Graphic India and Archie Comics, the Netflix film is written by Reema Kagti, Akhtar and Ayesha Devitre.
