Amartya Bhattacharyya’s Adieu Godard to be released in theatres on 2 September

The award-winning Odia feature is being distributed by Platoon Distribution.

Amartya Bhattacharyya’s Odia feature film Adieu Godard (2022) is all set to be released in theatres on 2 September. Starring Choudhury Bikas Das, Sudharsri Madhusmita, Choudhury Jayaprakash Das, Shankar Basu Mallick, among others, the film is written, edited, shot and directed by  Bhattacharyya and produced by Swastik Choudhury.

The Indo-French co-production is a tribute to the legendary French filmmaker Jean-Luc Godard. Drawing inspiration from his style of cinema, the film is the story of an old man, Ananda, who is addicted to pornography. Ananda secretly watches porn in a small village with his friends when one day, they accidentally come across a film by Godard which is mistakenly rented as porn. Ananda becomes mesmerised with the films, digging deeper into Godard's films.

A Platoon Distribution release, Adieu Godard has been widely screened across several film festivals across the world. After its world premiere at the 43rd edition of the Moscow International Film Festival, the film went on to win several awards including the Best Film award at the 27th Kolkata International Film Festival earlier this year.

The film also won three awards at the Sipontum Arthouse International Film Festival (SAIFF) in Italy, which included the Best Director and Best Screenplay awards as well as the Best Actor award for lead actor Choudhury Bikash Das.

Speaking about the upcoming theatrical release, Bhattacharyya told Cinestaan.com, “I'm very happy for Adieu Godard release as it's a very enjoyable and humorous film, which I hope will be loved by a wide section of viewers, not just the serious filmbuffs. The trust that Platoon Distribution has shown on the film is a huge boost to Odia cinema. It is the first time they are working with an Odia film."

He added, "While we all belive in the quality and viability of the film, there's a preconceived notion about Odia cinema and we are trying hard to break that. The world have seen several great films from different parts of India and there is no reason why an Odia cinema which has been received so well internationally shouldn't excite the film lovers. I'm sure anyone who watches this film will come out with a changed perception of Odia cinema.”
