Veteran filmmaker Saawan Kumar Tak dies at 86

Salman Khan, who was a part of his last movie Sawan: The Love Season (2006), posted a condolence message remembering their time together.

Veteran filmmaker, writer and lyricist Saawan Kumar Tak died today at Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital in Mumbai due to lung-related ailments. He was admitted over there a few days ago. He was 86. 

Saawan Kumar Tak started his career as a writer of the Balraj Sahni and Sanjeev Kumar-starrer Naunihal (1967). He made his directorial debut with Gomti Ke Kinare (1972), which was headlined by Sameer Khan and Mumtaz. 

Some of his prominent films as a filmmaker include Hawas (1974), Saajan Bina Suhagan (1978), Souten (1983), Souten Ki Beti (1989), Sanam Bewafa (1991), which was his first film with Salman Khan, Khal Naikaa (1993), Chaand Ka Tukdaa (1994) and Salma Pe Dil Aa Gaya (1997)

His last movie Saawan: The Love Season (2006) featured Saloni Aswani and Kapil Jhaveri as lovers. The film also had Khan playing the prominent role of a man who could see the future. 

Saawan Kumar Tak also wrote the lyrics of Hrithik Roshan and Ameesha Patel’s blockbuster debut Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai (2000)

Khan shared a farewell message for Saawan Kumar Tak on social media. Sharing his old picture with the late filmmaker, he wrote, “May you rest in peace my dear Sawaan ji. Have always loved and respected you.”
