The Marathi film Mogulmardini Chhatrapati Tararani which features Sonalee Kulkarni in the title role was announced last year. The film has now gone on floors today in Mumbai. Produced by Akshay Bardapurkar’s Planet Marathi, the film is directed by Rahul Janardan Jadhav.
Tararani was the daughter of Hambirrao Mohite, the commander-in-chief in the army of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. She became the daughter-in-law of Shivaji Maharaj and played a role in the Marathas’ fight against the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb.
“It is important for everyone to know the story of Chhatrapati Tararani’s valour and bravery,” Jadhav said in a statement. “That’s the reason we decided to bring the story of our great history in front of the audience. I am sure the audience will like this extraordinary film.”
Bardapurkar added, “Ever since we announced the film, the actors and the technical team has been working very hard. After carrying out studies, workshops and other preparations, the movie has finally gone on floors. Before coming onto the sets, everyone from the entire crew have minutely worked hard on their respective departments to ensure that the film turns out to be great. I have no doubt that the entire team will give justice to this film.”
Adding about Kulkarni’s casting, he stated, “I am happy that a talented actress like Sonalee is playing the titular role in this film. Our aim is to showcase Chhatrapati Tararani’s journey of bravery and valour in front of the audience.”
