The actress will essay the part of author-activist Pupul Jayakar in the upcoming film produced and directed by Ranaut.

Mahima Chaudhry joins Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency as author-activist Pupul Jayakar, who was also former prime minister Indira Gandhi’s close confidante.

The actress, who recently revealed that she was had been battling breast cancer, announced her first look as Jayakar in the upcoming film. She has been transformed to match the writer and close friend of Gandhi who was privy to a lot of insider information.

In a news report on IndianExpress.com, producer-director Ranaut said in a statement, “Pupul Jayakar was an author, a very close friend of Mrs Gandhi and has also written her autobiography. Mrs Gandhi confided in her about everything. If there is one thread that runs through the film and connects the audiences to the inner world of Mrs Gandhi, then it’s the character of Pupul Jayakar.”

Chaudhry thanked her co-star and director and shared, “Working with Kangana is an experience because she wears so many hats with such great ease. She is playing such an important political character, Mrs Indira Gandhi. She is directing it herself and producing it. She does it with such ease, she is so confident and she gives me a lot of confidence. I get a lot of strength looking at her and the way she functions. I am very proud to be working with her.”

The actress, who made her debut with Pardes (1997), is also co-starring with Anupam Kher on his 525th film, The Signature.
