Darlings song ‘La Ilaaj’: Arijit soulfully showcases Alia Bhatt’s loneliness in Mumbai

The track is yet another winner from the duo Gulzar-Vishal Bhardwaj.

Vijay Varma, Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah in Darlings

Mumbai is considered one of the most populous cities in the world. But one can feel lonely even amidst a crowd. That’s what Alia Bhatt’s character goes through in the song ‘La Ilaaj’ from her Netflix movie Darlings.

The legendary lyricist-composer Gulzar and Vishal Bhardwaj has given us a long list of memorable tracks over the years in films such as Omkara (2006) and Haider (2012). The two are in good form in ‘La Ilaaj’. Gulzar’s words make you feel for Bhatt’s character. Bhardwaj’s simple yet appealing music compliments the poetry well.

The two are joined by another popular and acclaimed singer: Arijit Singh. He is known as the master of deep, soulful songs and he lives up to his image yet again. It is also rare to see the condition of the protagonist highlighted by a singer from the other gender.

The song’s visuals are also highly appealing. Bhatt effortlessly puts across what her character is going through. The scene at the start where she buys two movie tickets and kulfis for her herself and her husband (Vijay Varma) who never turns up moves you. The track indicates the fading of love between the couple.

Produced by Shah Rukh Khan’s Red Chillies Entertainment and Bhatt’s Eternal Sunshine Productions and directed by Jasmeet K Reen, Darlings will be streamed on Netflix on 5 August.

Check out the song and let us know if you are keen on watching the film.
