Disney+ Hotstar to release Akshay Kumar-starrer Cuttputlli on 2 September

Akshay Kumar announced a film with director Ranjit M Tewari even before the release of their first project together Bell Bottom (2021). Then a day after the 2021 movie hit the theatres, the actor started shooting the film.  

Like Bell Bottom, this movie is also produced by Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh for their home banner Pooja Entertainment.

It is now learnt that the film is titled Cuttputlli (2022). Going by the film’s announcement video, it is the story of a hunt for a serial killer where Akshay plays the role of a police officer. The announcement shows his character emphasizing on delving into the serial killer's psychology and playing the same mind games with him as he does with the investigators. The film also stars Rakul Preet Singh and Sargun Mehta.

Speaking about his reason for choosing this script, Akshay said in a statement, “I have always believed in re-inventing myself and disrupting what’s already done. Khiladi (1992) was a special movie for me in more ways than one - a thriller that changed my life and established my identity in the movies.”

Following this, the actor was in search of a script of a similar crime thriller. “All these years I kept seeking a script in the thriller genre with an element of the unthinkable,” he said. “And Cuttputlli came my way and totally ‘thrilled’ me! It has been a delight to work with Pooja Entertainment and Ranjit yet again. I want this film to be watched by a large audience across the globe; hence I have chosen a streaming platform like Disney + Hotstar to showcase Cuttputlli.” 

Bhagnani added, “We are extremely excited to partner with Disney+ Hotstar to bring a big-ticket film like Cuttputlli starring the supremely talented Akshay Kumar and Rakul Preet Singh. We look forward to bringing this wonderfully crafted thriller to a large audience through this collaboration.” 

The trailer of Cuttputlli will be released tomorrow, 20 August, while the film is due to be streamed on Disney+ Hotstar from 2 September.
