Actor-producer Jitendra Joshi has announced that his upcoming movie Godavari (2022) is due to be released in theatres on 11 November. He made the announcement today, 17 August, on the second death anniversary of filmmaker and his close friend Nishikant Kamat, who died of liver disease in 2020.
Directed by Nikhil Mahajan, Godavari also stars Vikram Gokhale, Neena Kulkarni, Sanjay Mone and Priyadarshan Jadhav. The film is produced by Joshi and Jio Studios.
Joshi made the announcement through a heartfelt video while addressing the late Kamat while standing on the banks of the river Godavari, where a good part of the film is also based.
Speaking about the film’s release date, Joshi said in a statement, “When Nishikant left us, I was feeling [very] lonely. I was searching him in every story [back then]. His absence was raising a question mark for me. He should have been around me. While thinking about this, I started talking to river Godavari and I found Nishikant. I still miss him.”
Joshi received the Silver Peacock for Best Actor for his performance in Godavari during last year’s International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. Mahajan got the special jury award for his direction in the Marathi film.
Godavari revolves around a man (Joshi) who is fed up of his routine life of collecting rent since he belongs to the family of landowners. Joshi is also taking on the role of producer for the first time in his career.
