This is the third flop in a row for Akshay Kumar after Bachchhan Paandey (2022) and Samrat Prithviraj (2022).

Advait Chandan’s Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) and Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan (2022) slumped lower than expected on their first weekday yesterday, 16 August after their disappointing five-day first weekend.
The Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar-starrers made only Rs2 crore nett and Rs1.65 crore nett respectively, as per figures shared by the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
The total collection of Raksha Bandhan is an abysmal Rs35.15 crore nett in as many as six days against a budget of around Rs70 crore. The total of Laal Singh Chaddha at Rs47.75 crore nett is more shocking since an Aamir movie is expected to collect as much in the first two days. In fact, his last release Thugs Of Hindostan (2018) almost touched Rs50 crore on the first day itself.
With Laal Singh Chaddha’s budget being around Rs180 crore, its box-office loss margin will be high. This is the second unsuccessful movie in a row for Khan after Thugs Of Hindostan. For Akshay, it’s the third in a row after Bachchhan Paandey (2022) and Samrat Prithviraj (2022).
Ironically, the outright success of Akshay’s Sooryavanshi (2021) had given hope to the Hindi industry in last November when theatres had just re-opened. Things have changed rapidly and for the worse for Hindi cinema this year. Now all hopes are pinned on the Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt-starrer Brahmastra Part One: Shiva (2022), which is due to be released on 9 September.
