Advait Chandan’s Laal Singh Chaddha (2022) and Aanand L Rai’s Raksha Bandhan (2022) decided to release their respective films on 11 August to capitalize on both Raksha Bandhan and Independence Day holidays.
Both films couldn’t take advantage of the Raksha Bandhan festival which fell on 11 August this year. Similarly, their performance on 15 August, Independence Day was also disappointing. The Aamir Khan-starrer and the Akshay Kumar-starrer earned only Rs8.25 crore nett and Rs6.50 crore nett respectively yesterday, as per figures shared by the trade website BoxOfficeIndia.com.
Laal Singh Chaddha has so far made a total of only Rs46 crore nett in its five-day extended weekend against a high budget of around Rs180 crore. Surprisingly, Khan’s last film Thugs Of Hindostan (2018) had collected nearly Rs50 crore nett on its first day itself.
Raksha Bandhan’s grand total remains at only Rs33.75 crore nett. As per our trade sources, the film, which also stars Bhumi Pednekar and Sadia Khateeb, is made a budget of around Rs70 crore. Of both the films, the Akshay-starrer is better placed owing to its budget being much lower than that of Laal Singh Chaddha’s.
Anurag Kashyap’s Taapsee Pannu-starrer Dobaaraa (2022) is due to be released this week. The film is not expected to score big at the box office. However, this won’t be affect both Laal Singh Chaddha and Raksha Bandhan much since they were rejected in the first extended weekend itself.
