Starring Sanjay Mishra, Sadiya Siddiqui, Tigmanshu Dhulia and Mukesh Bhatt, the satirical comedy Holy Cow (2022) examines the socio-political milieu in the country through a seemingly commonplace event.
Sanjay Mishra plays a cool cat who finds himself in a fix when his cow, Rukhsaar, is stolen. Being a Muslim man, the needle of suspicion points towards him. As the news spreads like wildfire, Mishra's character increasingly finds himself in a fix.
He goes to the police station to lodge a report about the missing animal, and the officer, played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, wonders whether or not the cow has been killed by him. Meanwhile, Tigmanshu Dhulia's character informs him about the political reality, painting a rather grim picture if the cow is not found.
As the situation gathers momentum, Mishra finds himself in an increasingly desperate place, even contemplating suicide, given the hyper-political anxiety around the cow in our country. Towards the end, Mishra’s friend, played by Mukesh Bhatt, even pretends that Mishra is a Hindu, as they are desperate to get a cow by any means possible.
The Hindi film is produced by Aaliya Siddiqui.
Written and directed by Sai Kabir, Holy Cow is due to be released on 26 August. Check out the trailer below and let us know if you are keen on watching the film.
