Kiran Rao’s return to the director's chair, Laapataa Ladies (2023), which comes after her last directed film Dhobi Ghat (2011), tells the humorous story of two grooms who lose their brides on a train ride home. The comedy drama is due to be released in theatres on 3 March 2023.
The short teaser shows a young man Deepak Kumar returning home via train after his wedding. However, his joy is short-lived as he manages to misplace his bride on the ride home. Hilariously, another groom also faces the same dilemma, leaving viewers to wonder if the grooms lost the brides, or if the brides decided to get lost themselves.
The teaser showcases a funny scene wherein the grooms go to lodge a complaint at the police station. But Deepak Kumar only has a photograph of his bride with her face covered by her sari, complicating matters.
The film, which is set in 2001, stars Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Chhaya Kadam and Ravi Kishan.
Produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the script is based on an award-winning story by Biplab Goswami who came in second place in the first Cinestaan India's Storytellers Contest. The screenplay and dialogues are written by Sneha Desai, and additional dialogues are written by Divyanidhi Sharma.
The teaser of Laapataa Ladies will be shown in theatres alongside the Aamir Khan-starrer Laal Singh Chaddha (2022), on which Rao is also a producer.
