Actress Angana Roy will be seen as the younger version of a character named Rajlokkhi in the upcoming Hoichoi series Srikanto, starring Rishav Basu and Sohini Sarkar.
Directed by Sani Ghose Ray, the series is a musical retelling of Saratchandra Chattopadhyay’s classic novel of the same title.
The look of the actress was recently revealed in the song 'Amake Nao' from the series.
According to the actress, who is known for her performances in the Hoichoi series Shei Je Holud Pakhi, Chupkotha and Tansener Tanpura, Srikanto is a modern adaptation of the story. The series is divided into two parts, depicting both the past and present of the characters.
“A lot of elements have gone into making these characters, especially Rajlokkhi," said Roy. “In the past four years, I have consciously picked different characters and this one is unlike any of the characters I have played before. It’s also a very special project for me. I read Srikanto in my childhood and now playing the character of Rajlokkhi is a big deal for me.”
The song depicts how young Srikanto gets charmed by Rajlokkhi, who is elder to him. He desperately tries to impress the girl, who comes across as simple, but also bold.
The actress reportedly had an amazing time working in the series. “Some days, it would be quite a challenge to finish 10 to 12 scenes but since the directorial team was spot on, we had a lovely time. Sani Da is an amazing director and I will run out of compliments, speaking for him," added the actress.
The actress was first called to shoot for the film in April last year, then there was no follow up till the month of August when she came back to Kolkata after finishing her upcoming national project Mrs Undercover, starring Radhika Apte and Sumeet Vyas.
“Since my character is from around 2005-06, I was advised not to use mobile phones as the character, who comes from the suburbs," said the actress.
Roy also had to wear lenses as Sohini Sarkar does the same while playing the mature version of Rajlokkhi. “The way the script has been written and the character has been sketched, the transition from my part to Sohini Di’s has been quite smooth,” she said.
The actress revealed that she generally prefers to read the entire script first before beginning her performance. “I listen to songs to get into the zone of my character and while preparing for the role, I would tune into songs that Rajlokkhi might listen to in 2005. I had to be cautious so that my appearance didn’t come across as too urban,” elaborated the actress.
Roy was recently seen in Soumyajit Majumdar’s debut film #Homecoming. Besides Mrs Undercover, some of her upcoming projects are Shieladitya Moulik’s film Lukochuri, in which she stars. The actress has finished shooting for Sayantan Ghosal’s upcoming Zee5 series Rakto Korobi.
