Mammootty's charming character Sethurama Iyer, a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officer, will return to the big screen to solve yet another complicated high-profile case in the highly anticipated investigative drama CBI 5: The Brain.

The fifth instalment of the popular CBI franchise has been written by SN Swamy and directed by K Madhu, who had helmed the previous films. It will see Sethurama investigate the biggest case of his career as he sets out to find a common link in the deaths of the Gandhi family members.

The minute-long teaser begins with a voiceover by Mammootty, where he mentions the death of Sanjay Gandhi in a plane crash and the assassinations of Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi by the prime minister's bodyguards and a suicide bomber, respectively.

Sethurama, who suavely enters through the glass doors of the CBI office halfway through the teaser, thinks there could be a common element in these assassinations. Mammootty looks dashing as usual.

Mammootty has reprised the role after almost 17 years. The first film in the CBI series Oru CBI Diary Kurippu was released in 1988. The second instalment, Jagratha, hit the theatres in 1989 and the third, Sethurama Iyer CBI was out in 2004. The fourth part Nerariyan CBI — which opened to mixed reviews — was released in 2005.

CBI 5: The Brain has been produced by Swargachitra Appachan.
