First-time filmmaker Trushant Ingle's Zollywood is set to be released in theatres on 3 June.
The film depicts the zhaadi-patti form of folk theatre of Maharashtra's Vidarbha region and gives us a peek through the curtains at the people involved in this business and their daily lives.
Zollywood review: This docu-fiction sheds light on Vidarbha's zhaadi-patti theatre tradition
The film, which stars Dinkar Gavande and first-time actors Ajit Khobragde, Ashwini Ladekar, Kajal Rangari, Anil Uttalwar and Asawari Naidu, bagged the Special Jury award at the Indian Film Festival at Toulouse, France in 2020.
Talking about the film, Ingle said, "Zollywood is my first film and the subject of zhaadi-patti is close to my heart. I'm glad that I could do justice to this important topic through this film."
Zollywood has been backed by the Wishberry Films banner as well as Priyanka Agrawal, Anshulika Dubey, and Shashwat Singh. The film was scheduled to arrive in theatres on 9 April 2021, but the makers had to postpone the release because of the second wave of COVID-19.
The film will now clash with two highly anticipated and big-budget Hindi films — Akshay Kumar's historical epic Prithviraj and the Ajay Devgn-starrer Maidaan (2022), a biopic of independent India's first national football coach Syed Abdul Rahim.
