The first trailer of the Shahid Kapoor-starrer Jersey, which was released last year, was primarily about a failed cricketer’s struggle to buy a new jersey for his son. The second promo showcases Kapoor’s 36-year-old character’s struggle to make a comeback because of his age.
This instantly reminds you of Kaun Pravin Tambe? — the recently released biopic of former cricketer Pravin Tambe. In fact, one character in the trailer dismisses Kapoor’s character for being too old, just like in the Shreyas Talpade-starrer.
The biggest positive point about the trailer is the character of Kapoor’s son, played by Ronit Kamra. When the whole world is against his father, he motivates him to keep on playing. Kapoor, later on, points out that his son is the only person in his life who hasn’t judged him. These two moments move you and increase your interest in the film.
The cricket sequences seem to have been shot convincingly. Despite the delay, the film appears fresh. The lofted shot the protagonist plays on the off side is the best of all.
Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, Jersey is the official remake of the Tamil film of the same name by the same filmmaker. The film was supposed to arrive in theatres on 31 December 2021, but will now be released on 14 April.
