Barshali Chatterjee’s upcoming film Kulpi is a story of a dwarf, who overcomes all adversity with the help of his compassionate love interest and a sensitive father.
The trailer introduces actor Protyay Ghosh, who brings to life the sufferings of the protagonist, who is reduced to a joke because of his physical appearance.
Kulpi (Ghosh) enjoys people's attention until they begin to attack his parents over his looks. When his mother begins to get frustrated with society's reaction to her son, Kulpi, a romantic and entertainer at heart, decides to become a joker in a circus.
Biswanath Basu, who plays one of the proprietors of the circus, keeps Kulpi under his thumb and seeks to exploit him.
Meanwhile, the kind Konkona (Paayel Sarkar), who considers Kulpi her best friend and values his generous nature, motivates him to fight for his dreams. Kulpi’s father (Rajatava Datta) also shares his pain.
The story, which promises to highlight the importance of showing sensitivity and compassion, seems to be packed with sentimental dialogues, but the sequence where Konkona defeats a gang of goons alone comes across as a bit over the top.
Kulpi is slated to be released in theatres in May.
