Paani review: Extraordinary tale of an ordinary man

Paani bagged the National Award for Best Film on Environment Conservation/Preservation at the 66th edition of the awards.

Recalling his reaction when the awards were announced in late 2019, Kothare said, “It was a very overwhelming experience. I was shooting for 83 at that time. We were on the sets when the National awards were announced. I had a late call time on the sets. When I went on the sets, Kabir Khan gave me a hug. He said, ‘We are proud to have you as a part of our team’. Ranveer [Singh] was extremely warm and he too hugged me and said, ‘We are so proud of you’.”

That’s not all. Kothare had a surprise in store for him. “My producer Priyanka Chopra is so sweet,” he said. “I went back to the hotel room in the evening and there was a champagne bottle in my room. I then got a message on my phone saying, ‘Hi. I hope you got the gift'. It was from Priyanka. She managed to send it all the way from LA [Los Angeles]. I was in London.”

Asked about his other upcoming projects, Kothare said, “There is a big web-series that I have done for Disney+ Hotstar. That will be coming out soon. And there are two beautiful films that will also be out. One is Panchak, which is [produced] by Madhuri Dixit. And another one is something I will tell you about soon.”
