The much-delayed psychological action thriller Naam (2022), starring Ajay Devgn, has finally been lined up for release. Directed by Anees Bazmee, the film was shot way back in 2006. Besides Devgn, it stars Bhumika Chawla and Sameera Reddy.
Naam was produced by Dinesh B Patel who had given Devgn his break in Hindi cinema with Phool Aur Kaante (1991). After he died, it was taken over by producer Anil Roongta for his Roongta Entertainment banner.
Speaking to the Bombay Times entertainment supplement of The Times of India newspaper, Roongta said, “I am proud to present my first Bollywood project with Ajay Devgn. It is a fitting tribute to Dinesh B Patel, the person instrumental in making Ajay Devgn’s debut movie Phool Aur Kaante, and it was only destined that his last film was with his favourite actor.”
He added, “Unfortunately, Dineshji passed away shortly after the remaining portions of the film were shot. A common friend approached me to complete the film. I finished all the post-production work and cleared all the dues. I am satisfied with the final product. Ajay will be seen in a brilliant role indulging in some high-octane stunts.”
Naam was the fourth time Bazmee had directed Devgn after Hulchul (1996), Pyaar To Hona Hi Tha (1998) and Deewangee (2002).
Devgn’s next project Runway 34, which he has directed himself, is set for release in theatres on 29 April.
