Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the project has seen several delays. Initially, the film was supposed to arrive in theatres on 2 July 2021 but its release was postponed to 11 November due to the second wave of COVID-19. The makers later decided to put out the film on 11 February 2022 but changed their minds and eventually settled on 27 May. The reason for the latest postponement is not known.

Major will now clash with Ajay Devgn's sports drama Maidaan (2022).

The film also features Saiee Manjrekar, Sobhita Dhulipala and Prakash Raj. It will depict Sandeep's early childhood, teenage romance and stint in the army.

Produced by Sony Pictures Films India in association with Mahesh Babu's GMB Entertainment and A+S Movies, Major will be released in Hindi, Telugu and Malayalam.
