Soorarai Pottru, which is based on the life of Captain GR Gopinath — the founder of the budget airline Air Deccan, was to be premiered in theatres. However, the makers eventually opted for a direct-to-OTT release due to the pandemic.
The film, which was produced by 2D Entertainment, also marked the southern debut of well-known Hindi film producer Guneet Monga, who also backed this project. The project also starred Aparna Balamurali, Paresh Rawal and veteran Telugu actor Mohan Babu and featured music by GV Prakash Kumar.
