The 27th Kolkata International Film Festival, which was postponed in January, will take place from today in person and end on 1 May.
The festival, which generally takes place around November every year, was postponed because of the COVID-19 pandemic to be held between 7 and 14 January. However, as the third wave of the pandemic struck in the new year, the festival was postponed again.
The inauguration of the festival this time will take place at the Nazrul Tirtha auditorium instead of the Netaji Indoor Stadium. The festival will take off with the screening of Satyajit Ray’s Aranyer Din Ratri (1970).
Filmmaker Raj Chakraborty, who is the chairman of the festival, told The Times of India newspaper, “Despite all the challenges, our chief minister wanted us to host a physical edition of the 27th KIFF. I am happy to announce that our festival will take place at the end of April. Our chief minister wanted us to host the festival at a time when everyone could attend. Accordingly, these days were selected.”
