Mrunal Thakur meets Nani, leading man of the original Jersey (2019)

The Mrunal Thakur- and Shahid Kapoor-starrer sports drama Jersey (2022) was released in theatres yesterday. The film, a remake of the 2019 Telugu hit of the same name, has been receiving mostly positive reviews.

Recently, Thakur, who plays the role of Vidya in the Hindi version, had an unintentional but utterly charming encounter with the original film's leading man Nani. The actor met Thakur in Hyderabad, where she is shooting for her upcoming film with Dulquer Salmaan.

The actress was delighted with the humility of the Telugu star. Nani expressed his excitement for the film's remake.

Speaking about the charming encounter, Thakur said, "Nani was so humble and such an absolute sweetheart. He even shared with me his excitement to see the remake and I’m looking forward to seeing what he thinks of it."

She added that she was drawn to the remake by Nani and Shraddha Srinath's performances. "When I watched the original, it was Shraddha and his performance that made me want to work in this film. So I’m glad I got to meet him in person.”

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, who also helmed the original, Jersey is the story of a father who returns to the cricket field in his late thirties for a spot on the national team to fulfil his son’s wish for the India jersey.
